Phaneesh Murthy is one of the most well-regarded business executives and thought leaders. Over his 3 decades of experience across the Global Technology and Business Services industry, he pioneered numerous business disruptions and competitive differentiators to drive organizational and industry growth.
As Worldwide Head of Sales & Marketing and Product Solutions Group and later as Member of the Board at Infosys, Phaneesh spearheaded the Global Delivery Model or GDM, which proved to be a game changer in the industry. His visionary leadership resulted in Infosys revenue growing multi-fold, from less than $2 Million in 1992 to $750 Million in 2002. As a result, Infosys’ enterprise value grew 2000x to $13.5 Billion in just over a 10-year period.
As CEO of iGATE from 2003 to 2013, Phaneesh, upended the commoditized Technology market by introducing another business disruption – iTOPS (Integrated Technology & Operations) model. He leveraged the model successfully to drive a business turnaround at iGATE – from a marginal top-line at (-) 20% margins to a $1.2 Billion revenue business with healthy +25% operating margin. As a result of his efforts, the enterprise value of iGATE rose to $4.8 Billion (from $70 Million) over a period of 11 years.
From 2004 to 2015, Phaneesh was also a part of Board at CSS Corp. During his long-standing relationship with the company Phaneesh engineered exit of the PE to bring in better suited Venture fund and guided the company’s Founder in streamlining the business verticals and improving EBITDA margins from single mid digits to early teens. During his Board tenure, company’s EBITDA went up by 20x. He also guided the leadership transition from founder to a new CEO and played a key role in selling the company to a renowned PE for $270 Million in 2013.
Since 2013, apart from his role as the CEO of Primentor, Phaneesh has been advising the leadership at large corporations around areas such as adopting value networks, maximizing business impact from tech-ops footprint, and leveraging emerging technology to disrupt businesses and accelerate value creation.
Phaneesh played a critical role in transforming a Silicon Valley based small staffing focused company into a technology services company that specializes in Digital Web Engineering. He guided their Management team to focus more on Agile Scrum methodologies based projects, onsite delivery, and sophisticated account management processes. Company’s EBITA margins went up 6x and Enterprise value increased from $40 Million to $160 Million during his Advisory tenure. Phaneesh also played a key role in selling the company to a NASDAQ listed leading IT Services Company.
As part of Board of a Bangalore based product engineering company, Phaneesh provided strategic directions to enable the company to morph into a technology solution provider in Wireless and IoT space. His guidance and efforts considerably raised the enterprise value, creating an attractive exit for early investors when the company was bought for nearly $72 Million by a Paris-headquartered leading engineering consulting firm.
As part of his advisory engagement with a large UK based bank, he helped their team to automate processes, increase offshore accountability to Indian partners, and enhance employee efficiency to reduce overall costs.
Currently Phaneesh is helping the management of a 130+ year old leading US insurance company to achieve Digital transformation and deliver unparallel customer experience using Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning.
In addition to Primentor, Phaneesh serves on the Advisory Board for the Partners Group, a private equity fund. Since early 2014, Phaneesh has also been an Operating Partner at New State Capital Partners. His focus at New State Capital Partners is business services, technology, and related opportunities.
Phaneesh has a B-Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
